Text Box: How do I keep my system operating at it’s most efficient? How can I help extend the longevity of my system?

Text Box: If you suspect that you may possibly have an air leak, give Air Dynamics a call to have your duct system checked out.
Tip #9  Always avoid placing furniture or items in front of the discharge vents or return air registers in your home since this will block the airflow, which in turn, can reduce how efficiently
Tip # 10  Keeping your curtains closed and/or shades down on the sunny sides of your home will also help with the cooling of your home.  Similarly, draperies and blinds can provided extra insulation during the colder months.  These simple measures can help with utility usage since the unit will not have to run as long or as often to heat and cool the area.
Tip # 11  If your system is old or has a low SEER rating and your utility bills are very costly, you might consider upgrading your system to a more efficient, energy saving system in order to lower your heating and cooling costs.  If you have questions about SEER ratings and unit efficiencies, give Air Dynamics a call and we will explain the importance of SEER ratings and efficiencies, or you can link to our Efficiency Ratings Page.
Tip # 12  Since particular household activities, such as drying clothes or cooking, can heat up the home, you might consider scheduling these activities to avoid the hottest times of the day.
Tip # 13  When the fireplace is not in use, be sure to close the fireplace damper.  Fireplaces can create drafts, which can affect both the heating and the cooling of the home.
Tip # 14  Never store combustible materials in the furnace closet since this could result in an explosion or fire hazard.
Tip # 15  Weather stripping should be applied to all exterior doors, as well as, windows.  Also, it may be necessary to apply caulk around these areas depending on the size of the gap around the window or door.  Drafts and small air leaks greatly effect your unit’s heating and cooling ability, which in turn costs you more money through your utility bills.
Tip # 16  Installing double pane windows or more efficient windows, especially on the sunny sides of your home will also help your unit cool your home easier, as well as, provide greater insulation from the colder outside temperatures in the cooler months, thus, helping with utility costs.
Tip # 17  Obviously, you want to be as comfortable as possible when you are at home, but remembering to adjust the thermostat, either up a few degrees or down a few degrees, for those times that you aren’t home or don’t need as much a/c or heating will also help with utility costs.
Tip # 18  Dressing appropriately for the season, often allows you to be able to move the thermostat down a few degrees during the colder months and up a few degrees in the hotter months.  This, in turn, could help cut the costs of your utility bills.
Tip # 19  Applying as many of these tips as possible, based on applicability, can help your unit function more efficiently, possibly last longer, and help cut your utility bills.

Text Box: Tip # 2  Be sure to always turn your outdoor unit off when mowing to prevent debris and grass from being sucked into the outdoor coil.  If debris and/or grass are blown into the outdoor part of the system, it can interfere with the unit functioning properly and efficiently, which could affect the ability of your unit to cool and/or heat your home.
Tip # 3  Change filters for your air conditioning and heating system regularly.  Filters can become clogged with much more dirt, debris, hair, etc. than most people realize.  This, in turn, can greatly effect the efficiency of your system, obviously, effecting it’s ability to heat and cool properly.  Filters that aren’t changed regularly put a strain on the system, and eventually lead to equipment failure.
Tip # 4  Get rid of any fire ant beds near your outdoor unit since the ants are drawn to the humming noises of the components of the outdoor unit.  The ants will get inside of these components, which will then cause the components to fail.  This is a common source of system failures during the summer, and can often be prevented by getting rid of any beds near the unit.
Tip # 5  The installation of ceiling fans can help circulate the air in the room causing you to feel cooler.  This can allow you to run the temperature up a few degrees in the summer and still feel comfortable while saving money at the same time.
Tip # 6  The amount of insulation in your attic can greatly effect the cost and ability of your system to heat and cool your home.
If years have past since the attic in your home was insulated, the insulation in your attic may have “settled” thus greatly effecting the R factor of the insulation, or it’s insulating ability.  Having more insulation blown in your attic will improve your unit’s ability to heat and cool and your utility bill.
If your home doesn’t have any insulation in the attic at all, this will greatly effect the unit’s ability to heat and cool your home, as well as, substantially raising your utility costs.  Having insulation blown in your attic will drastically improve all of this.
Tip # 7  Similarly, the amount of insulation in your walls will also greatly effect your unit’s ability to heat and cool your home.  However, insulating the walls in an already existing home presents more of a challenge
Tip # 8  An air leak/leaks in the duct system in your attic could be a possible cause for heating and cooling problems and/or high utility bills.  A duct connection may have possibly come lose in the attic or the duct itself may have deteriorated through the years, and may be allowing valuable air to be lost in the attic.  your system operates.

Text Box: Tip # 1  Have your system serviced seasonally, once in the spring and once in the fall.  This ensures that the system is functioning properly, and as efficiently as possible for the age and efficiency level of your particular system.  It is often cheaper and much easier to prevent damage than it is to repair it.
Air Dynamics offers an Annual Preventive Maintenance Program in which we service your unit seasonally for a yearly fee.  If you are possibly interested in finding out more about this, see our Preventive Maintenance Program page or give us a call, and we will explain all of the benefits of the Preventive Maintenance Program.
